  1. Chiefs vs. Lions

  • Jawaan Taylor is out and Lucas Niang will get the start and play with the 1’s for at least the first half, according to Andy Reid.

    • Niang is one of our clients who we provide technique behavior training to, which you can see how we attack training NFL players like him here.

    • It is because the Chiefs will ALSO be starting rookie left tackle Kingsley Suamataia in his first extended action.

    • Playing tackle for the Chiefs in the Mahomes era is, as Patrick’s trainer Bobby Stroupe once said to me, one of the most difficult tasks in the NFL.

    • While Niang was the starter for the Chiefs in his rookie season in 2021 prior to a devastating knee injury, this will be somewhat of an audition for him to refamiliarize himself against the opponents best as both of the Chiefs bookends will see at least a couple snaps against Aiden Hutchinson.

    • This will give the Chiefs both a look at what they have in their rookie Left Tackle, and the quality of the depth they have in their Right Tackle.

  1. Bengals vs. Bears

  • We will get to see number one overall pick Caleb Williams in his most extended action of the preseason after he had some flashes in Week 1.

    • This game won’t tell us if he’s the real deal, but it will tell us a tiny bit about how far he’s developed in Chicago with Shane Waldron, while also giving us an idea about how much of the offense the Bears are letting him have control over

    • This is the first step in a long journey for Williams and we will see if the coaches provide a different, if not better, environment for Williams than they did for Justin Fields

  • We will also get to see Joe Burrow in extended action, beyond a few plays, since his season ending injury last season. Yes, he was fun in the few plays he had last week, but this is a better look at where he is in his recovery and his stepping back into the offense.

  1. Vikings vs. Browns

  • With the news of JJ. McCarthy’s season ending injury it is the Sam Darnold Show in Minnesota. Darnold looked good in the limited action we saw him in while in San Fran playing for Kyle Shanahan.

    • We have already talked a lot about the benefits of playing in the Shanahan offense, and that’s what he’ll be doing in Minnesota under Kevin O’Connell.

    • Each of the Shanahan coaches have their own wrinkles for this system, but it is their coaching styler and development tools that quarterbacks rave about. Darnold was always seen as having lots of potential, and this may be the environment for him to showcase what he’s got to contribute in this league.
